A US woman has ditched her day job to find her missing dog, according to The New York Times.

Carole King and her husband Verne noticed their Border collie was missing after returning back to their hotel room in Montana after a night out.

They searched the neighbourhood, nearby forests and posted on Facebook groups.

Verne returned to work in Washington while Carole quit her job as a postie and searched for Katie in Montana.

After eight weeks, a nearby resident told Carole he might have seen her.

Katie hurried over to the house and searched the area, finding Katie under a tree – dehydrated and thin.

“All I could think about was, ‘I’m done. I got her,” King told the Times.
