Police have confirmed that a man has been found dead on the Pacific Highway, near Kempsey, overnight.

Officers were called to the scene at about 11:55pm last night (Monday 15th July) after the body of a man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was found in the breakdown lane of the highway at Barraganyatti, north of Kempsey.

Initial inquiries suggest that the man was stuck in a hit and run, possibly by a truck, after the driver failed to stop following the incident.

Police are now seeking witnesses to help piece together exactly what happened.

It’s unknown exactly when the man was hit, however, police have said that it could have been up to three hours before his body was discovered.

A crime scene was established and Mid North Coast Crash Investigation Unit officers are investigating.

Anyone who may have seen anything or who may have dash cam vision that could assist with the investigation should come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
