Police have confirmed that a man has been arrested following an operation in Sydney’s CBD this afternoon.

According to police media, a man allegedly stabbed a woman at about 2pm near the corner of King and Clarence Streets

Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports that a man had been walking along York Street armed with a knife. As police made their way to the location, there were multiple reports of a person being stabbed.

A woman was found by police and NSW Ambulance paramedics inside a hotel suffering a stab wound. She has since been taken to hospital and is believed to be in a stable condition.

Witnesses reportedly assisted police in detaining the man following the stabbing, with police describing the members of the public as, “Significantly brave people”.

“They are heroes” says Superintendent Gavin Wood.

The man in question has since been taken into custody at Day Street Police Station.

Police have confirmed that they are still conducting proactive patrols in the area but it is believed that there is no further threat to the public.

Road closures remain in place in the area as a number of crime scenes are established. Commuters are being warned that this is likely to have a significant impact on traffic and public transport this afternoon.

Members of the public are urged to avoid the area.
