A man was tied to a chair before being hit and killed by a truck on north NSW highway.

The 43-year-old was killed on the M1 near Cudgera Creek in the Tweed shire on Monday, NSW Police said in a statement on Wednesday.

A 38-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man were charged with taking or detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage.

Police allege the pair detained the man and tied him to a chair at a Cudgera Creek property.

They were refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on February 17.
