Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has ignored messages from NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian about the reopening of the state border.
According to Berejiklian, she texted Palaszczuk to congratulate her on her election win before reigniting border talks.
Berejiklian received no reply, prompting her to commend Queensland on their State of Origin win.
Palaszczuk only responded to this message, writing: “Queenslander, great game”.
She did not address the borders.
On The Today Show, Berejiklian claimed that the last time she spoke to her Queensland counterpart was at a Cabinet meeting in October.
“I’ve tried. I reached out to her and congratulated her and asked to have that conversation,” she said on the program.
“That’s fine, but at the end of the day, it’s the citizens that hurt… both hers and mine and citizens across Australia.
“She didn’t mention borders or thanks for the congratulations.”
Berejiklian went on to express her concern at keeping the borders closed.
“I’m worried about jobs and people not seeing their families,” she explained.
“I don’t want to make light of the situation, because yes we all have fun in sport, but the reality is that people are suffering because the border is there and we’re doing everything we can.”
She added: “Both she and the WA Premier really need to sit up and think about Australia.”
Earlier this week, Annastacia Palaszczuk reopened the Queensland border to regional NSW. Do you think it’s time for her to reopen it to Sydneysiders?
