It’s a really weird time at the moment. None of us really know what to expect or what will happen next amid the coronavirus outbreak and it really does bring about a lot of emotions for all of us.
Business have been forced to close, people have lost their jobs while others are working tirelessly to help out in any way that they can, national sporting competitions have been put on hold, and of course numerous people are testing positive to the coronavirus every single day.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg really. It almost feels like the affects of the coronavirus outbreak are slowly trickling into every aspect of life at the moment.
Even here at the Kyle and Jackie O show we’re having to make minor changes to the way that we put our show to air each morning, with Jackie O not only broadcasting from home in self-isolation but also having to home school her daughter Kitty, with her school shut down.
But what’s even more worrying in some ways than the physical affects, are the issues brought on by the coronavirus that we can’t necessarily see, like the affects to people’s mental health.
Jackie and Kyle were discussing the heartbreaking affects of the coronavirus pandemic during the show opener this morning when Jackie couldn’t help but shed a tear.
“Apart from this virus that’s out there, the next big problem is going to be depression. That’s going to be huge through Australia,” Kyle said this morning. “People that have never experienced anxiety before in their life are going to be freaking out.”
“I tell you there’s going to be people that are losing their jobs over this and I couldn’t imagine that kind of burden and stress when you’re responsible for your family and feeding your family and it’s just so uncertain what’s going to happen,” said Jackie.
“It’s horrible that these businesses are being closed down. Really horrible. So many people are losing their jobs which is so saddening.”
Kyle went on to say that he couldn’t even imagine the amount of stress and heartbreak that people are facing at the moment at the prospect of not being able to afford rent or food to put on the table for the families.
Even just speaking about it was too much for Jackie and she began to tear up.
“That’s what actually really makes me worry about this time,” Jackie told us. “It physically makes me ill. It really does.
“I do genuinely worry for people out there,” she added as her voice began to break. “It’s just bad in every way isn’t it. You just feel bad for all of those families.”
Jackie tried to hold back her sniffles, telling Kyle that she’s got Kitty at home with her at the moment after her school closed down. She said she’s trying to remain positive for the sake of her daughter.
“I’ve got Kitty. I’m trying to keep myself upbeat for her,” Jackie told us.
Things took a bit of a brighter turn from there as Kyle decided to get 9-year-old Kitty on the microphone this morning to give her some advice about her home schooling.
