if you suffer from headaches, it can be an expensive business as painkillers can cost quite a lot of money.

But it actually shouldn’t cost that much.

Martin Lewis, a money saving expert from the UK has claimed you can save a small fortune in your pharmacy bill by just being a little but savvier when choosing your painkillers.

Research has shown that we are being ripped off when it comes to medicines such as paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Writing in the UK newspaper The Mirror, Martin claims that big brands are really good at persuading us to spend more on their products, when cheaper, generic alternatives are just as good.

His company, Money Saving Expert, researched the cost of big brand painkiller sand claimed that products such as Panadol and Nurofen are overpriced by 692% even though there is no difference between a cheaper alternative.

Only at the start of this year were Nurofen slammed for saying their products were capable of targeting back and joint pain.

The cheapest generic ibuprofen on the shelf is priced at just $1.99 in Australia for 100 tablets but the same product but with Nurofen branding is close to $9.99.

It is a similar situation with branded cold and flu relief tablets, with the branded products being overpriced by 48%.

In Painkillers, there is no difference between the active ingredient between a pricey brand a cheaper version.

Sometimes, the same product is just packaged differently between the brand name version and the cheaper, non-branded version.. so you are paying four times over, for the same product.
