With over one million Sydneysiders owning a dog, pub owners have realised there is now a market to make their venues dog friendly.

With more and more venues now catering for people to bring their pets to licensed venues, there is now a website that allows people to rate pubs on how dog friendly they are.

With at least 50 venues in Sydney – 32 pubs and 18 breweries, Pupsy co-founders Rafaela Salzer and Normi Nordstrom told the Daily Telegraph:

“We realised very quickly how difficult it was to find places you can visit with your dog,” Ms Salzer said.

“Most places were not pet-friendly and to find the ones that actually were required hours of work to go through blogs and call up places and ask.”

The Frisco Hotel in Woolloomooloo recently held its first Pups in Pubs event with 50 dogs and owners turning up to enjoy the change in pub rules.

The Pups in Pubs event, run in conjunction with the Pupsy team and Sharon Garrad from specialist dog event organiser Street Paws, was all about “tail-wagging fun” with more events planned over the coming months.
