Always thought you should freeze your vodka?
Apparently you’re wrong.
And we have the official word from the creator of Grey Goose, so he’s got some authority on the subject.
Yes it’s nifty that vodka has a freezing temp of -27 meaning keeping the bottle icy cold allows you to forego ice.
But Grey Goose Maitre de Chai Francois Thibault claims doing so actually ruins the flavour of the drink.
“[Freezing it] hid[es] the more sophisticated aromas and flavours,” he told the Business Insider.
How we SHOULD be drinking vodka, according to the master?
“The temperature of a slight dilution with ice in a mixing glass.”
The exception to the rule is for cheap vodka – freezing that can mask some of the “aggressive, burning” notes and subsequently improve the flavour.
So if you’ve got a bottle of Mishka, feel free to keep that baby ice cold.
But if you’re shelling out a pretty penny for something a little more refined, maybe listen to this man’s advice.
