We’ve all heard of moderation but some monster masquerading as a doctor is suggesting that the perfect portion of hot chips is six, as in six chips.

I blame the New York Times for publishing an article about the possible harm in scoffing French fries, where Dr Eric Rimm a professor at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health not only called them ‘starch bombs’, he described taters as weapons of dietary destruction.

“If you take a potato, remove its skin (where at least some nutrients are found), cut it, deep fry the pieces in oil and top it all off with salt, cheese, chili or gravy, that starch bomb can be turned into a weapon of dietary destruction.”

I’m literally breathing into a paper bag as I’m writing this.

Dr Rimm said that potatoes rank near the bottom of healthful vegetables because they lack the compounds and nutrients found in green leafy vegetables.

At least the article had the smarts to acknowledge that not everyone was going to suddenly do this thing called ‘not eat hot chips’, so they obvs asked Dr Rimm about portion sizes.

What he said was borderline psychotic.

“I think it would be nice if your meal came with a side salad and six French fries.”

The internet, of course, responded appropriately…
