Residents of a small Italian village thought they were witness to a straight-up miracle this week when, instead of water, Lambrusco poured from their taps.

Praise be.

For the villagers near Modena in Italy’s northern Emilia-Romagna region, however, it was not a miracle but a plumbing stuff-up.

The ‘technical fault’ happened when one of the silos that the wine is stored at the Setticani winery started leaking into the water pipes.

Because the wine was being stored at a higher pressure, it started to run through the system and into people’s houses – and kitchen taps – nearby.

Despite the water board sending out technicians as quickly as possible to fix the ‘problem’, residents had already “bottled as much of the precious liquid as they could to enjoy later at a lunch or dinner,” the Gazetta di Modena reported.
