When you look at children’s advertisements do you see your own child in there?

If your child has a disability, chances are you’ll answer ‘no’.

That was the case for an American mother who realised that in all the ‘back to school’ advertisements hitting her inbox, not one represented her own daughter Grace, who has Down Syndrome.

Photographer Katie Driscoll says that not one model in close to 50 ads represented a child with a disability.

So she decided to do something about it.

Teaming up with several children’s clothing lines, Katie cast her own models – including a child with Down Syndrome, for a back to school photoshoot.

Talking about the project on her blog, she says it wasn’t hard.

“When given the opportunity children blend together perfectly,” Katie says.

And when you see the photos, you can understand exactly what she means.
