As I write this article, I’m thinking that I should change the word ‘period’ to ‘time of the month’ or ‘menstruation’ or something ‘less offensive’ – and then I think, ‘wait – why is it offensive?!’
Literally half the population have their period or have had it during their lives – it’s a very natural thing that plays an immense role in the reproduction of this planet – so what’s with all the ‘ick?’
One woman is changing all that by putting period-shaming to bed once and for all.
Kiran Gandhi, who is drummer for the band M.I.A decided she would run the London marathon during her period – with no tampon or pad.

According to Kiran, her goal was to send a message against period-shaming and take a stand for women around the globe who don’t have access to menstruation products or who have to hide their period, like it doesn’t exist.
Unsurprisingly, the reaction on social media has been mixed, but mostly supportive!

Kiran Gandhi…what a disgusting way to spread awareness! Why couldn’t you raise funds to send tampons or pads to places that lacked access!
