Did you know that there are people who have two vaginas?
No, you didn’t read that wrong – 22-year-old YouTuber Cassandra Bankson is one such individual who has “uterus didelphys”, literally a double uterus.
The two small tubes typically joining together to create one hollow uterus don’t completely merge in this condition, meaning you end up with a single vaginal opening, but two vaginal cavities, uteruses and cervixes.
Cassandra, who had been experiencing back pain and severe period cramps, told MailOnline, “I didn’t really know what to make of it… It certainly helped explain a lot of things.”
Many people don’t discover they have the condition for a long time, as it’s only detectable via ultrasound or physical exam.
It can cause more than one period per month and require two tampons to be worn at once, as well as potentially causing sex to be difficult, more painful or even more pleasurable.
Cassandra’s got a good sense of humour about it, though, saying that she joked to her family that she’s “twice the woman” due to her two vaginas.
