A rumor that swept the internet claiming Prince Philip had died has left the Queen extremely upset and angry and looking for ways to try and curb fake news about the Royals.
According to The Sun, a rum our claiming the 97-year-old Duke had passed away began trending on Twitter late Friday, resulting in the Buckingham Palace switchboard being inundated with calls.
Sources claim the Queen was left “absolutely fuming” resulting in a tense phone call about how to try and deal with constant fake news.
A royal insider said, “They both agreed there was little they could do but they are very, very annoyed,”
“It’s not nice to hear people the world over commenting on your health or death, even if you’re used to being in the public eye. It shows how the internet can get out of control.”
“The Queen is absolutely fuming over this and thinks it’s disgraceful.”
The Queen, 92, is currently holidaying in Balmoral while her husband of 70 years is at Sandringham.
She was first made aware of the claims when her staff started asking how Philip was.
“If he was ill, she would be with him instead of starting her Scottish holiday,” the source said.
“In fact not only is he not very ill, he is actually in fine form and is recovering well from his recent hip operation.”
“It has given him a new lease of life and he hopes to live to 100 just like the Queen Mum!”
Buckingham Palace has declined to comment.
