An Italian family have been reunited with their dog after it fell overboard and was lost at sea.
The Labrador puppy’s owner, Mario Di Meglio, was in the process of bringing his new dog home when he slipped out of his leash and into the sea.
A group of sailors with RYCC Savoia, a Naples yacht club, rescued the labrador on October 24.
The puppy, named Noodle, was swimming alone in the Gulf of Naples, when it swam towards to boat beckoning it over, and a passenger scooped him out of the water.
His legs were almost paralysed from the cold, and the rescuers dried him off.
“We approached, we were sailing and manoeuvring was not easy,” sailor Massimiliano Cappa told La Repubblica.
“He was visibly exhausted, his legs almost paralysed by the cold. He trembled and wept.”
Luckily, the dog was dried off and warmed before being reunited with his grateful owner.
“I am very happy, I could embrace him again,” Mr Meglio told La Repubblica.
“But I’m still upset and angry about what happened: when the dog fell into the sea [and the ferry would not stop].”
