We all know that picking a name for a new baby is always a tricky decision.

You know, the name you choose for your baby will be a defining piece of his or her identity for a lifetime. So no pressure, right?

But while us common folk get to choose any baby name of our heart’s desire, there is a different rule for the royals.

Apparently, those in direct succession to the throne are expected to follow a certain protocol such as choosing names after past kings or other royal ancestors.

However, those not in direct succession (like Prince Harry) have a much more relaxed rules.

But there is one rule that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex must follow.

The Queen must be told of the news first and tradition dictates that the couple wait a few days after the baby’s birth before publicly announcing the official name.

According to royal commentator, Victoria Arbiter, this is linked to two reasons.

This allows for a little time as a family to celebrate the new addition but also this type of waiting period is there so that they can be sure that the name they have picked is the right one.

Chatting to Town & Country, Arbiter explained:

“Royals, however, also have to consider the great responsibility in naming a new member of the family and I expect they want to be a hundred percent certain of their choice before announcing the name and sealing the baby’s place in history.”

Hot faves for royal names are Victoria, Arthur, Albert, Diana, Elizabeth and Philip.
