Lady Gaga has spoken out about her split for with Taylor Kinney for the first time.
The star called her engagement to Kinney in July after five years of dating and her new album Joanne was influenced by the men in her life.
In an emotional interview, Gaga shed some light on the reason behind their split.
She said that woman love ‘harder’ than some men feel comfortable doing, which can have an impact on a relationship.
Gaga revealed: “Sometimes I don’t know that that love is met with the type of dignity that we wish it would be met with. You know, we’re not trying to make you less of a man.
“We just want you to love us as deeply and as wholesomely and as fully as we love you.” Gaga, 30, says the record helped her ‘figure out’ many of her other relationships in her life as well.
She explained: “I’m figuring out all of those relationships in my life through the music, and going very deeply into it. But in a totally beautiful way. It’s not a sad album. It’s an album that is very revealing of me as a woman.”
Following the split, Gaga wrote in a long Facebook post that she thought Taylor was her “soul mate”.
She explained: “Taylor and I have always believed we are soul mates.
“Just like all couples, we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break. We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared.”
Later, she added: “Please root us on. We’re just like everybody else, and we really love each other.”
