As year 12 students across NSW received their HSC marks yesterday one teenager took his celebration of the end of exams too far and ended up in hospital with serious burns.
An 18-year-old man had to be airlifted to hospital after a stunt that saw him set his HSC notes on fire while home alone in Sydney’s northwest.
The incident occurred at a property in Arcadia just before 9am on Thursday morning after the teen added accelerant to the stack of papers.
He suffered partial thickness burns to his right arm and torso after the pile of papers burst into flames.
“He called it in himself as he was home alone,” said a NSW spokeswoman. “His mum came home a short time later.”
A CareFlight helicopter arrived at the scene and treated the man before airlifting him to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
