Later this year, Sean Penn and Charlize Theron were set to walk down the aisle – but it will not be.
The couple, who have been together for a year-and-a-half have reportedly decided to call it quits.
According to a report on the Daily Mail, Theron, 39, was the one to call off her engagement to Penn, 54, after spending time together in Europe in May.
After appearing on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet with Penn on May 14, the couple backed out of at least one event scheduled event together and have appeared at different events solo since then.
Penn, who was married to Madonna, 56, from 1985 to 1989 and Robin Wright, 49, for 14 years spoke to Esquire UK in March of this year about the possibility of a third marriage.
‘You say I’ve been married twice before, but I’ve been married under circumstances where I was less informed than I am today,’ he said.
‘So I wouldn’t even consider it a third marriage, I’d consider it a first marriage on its own terms if I got married again. I mean, I like the tradition. A friend of mine wrote a line, “Without tradition, new things die.” And I don’t want new things to die.’
