Sam Smith is sending his apologies to fans after cancelling his performance on night one of the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas.

The set was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances that happened during dress rehearsals, and at this stage, this is all we know.

Sam tweeted a message to fans who came to Vegas to see him and to those who were watching live from around the world.

“Dear all, Due to unforeseen circumstances which transpired after rehearsal, it became clear that I’m sadly unable to perform at the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Vegas tonight,” he tweeted. “I am so so sorry about this and I want to apologise to all my fans. All my love, always. Sam x”

Many were left scratching their heads when Smith’s set was skipped, despite official show times stating the exact time he would be performing.

It wasn’t until iHeartRadio Music Festival host Ryan Seacrest addressed the singer’s absence that it was clear that he wouldn’t be performing.

Sam is extremely sorry. He wants to apologise to all of you, all of his fans. We love Sam,” Seacrest said. “Sam has been a part of our iHeart family for many, many years, and we look forward to seeing him really soon. Love you, Sam.”

Day one of the festival saw performances from artists including Fleetwood Mac, Childish Gambino, Jack White, Rae Sremmurd, Panic! At The Disco, Jason Aldean, Mariah Carey, and Kygo.
