Riverdale has shut down production following the news of cast member Luke Perry’s death.

Series executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and Jon Goldwater have issued the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the ‘Riverdale,’ Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all.

“A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time.”

Luke Perry had played Fred Andrews, the father of Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), since the show premiered in 2017. He died this morning after suffering a massive stroke last week. It is unknown at this time how the show will address his death and the fate of his character.

With so many years on TV staples like Beverly Hills, 90210 and Riverdale, it’s no surprise the fallen star had a number of messages shared in his honour.

Rest in peace, Luke.
