Floyd and Violet Hartwig passed away peacefully, hand-in-hand on February 11 this year after suffering separate health issues. Mr Hartwig had kidney failure and Violet, much like in the movie The Notebook, suffered dementia for several years.
The pair had been married for 67 years passed away almost exactly at the same time, as their family members pushed their beds close together as they all knew the end wasn’t far away.
Their daughter, Donna Scharton told ABC News, “They weren’t fancy. They were just decent people that were always committed to each other, no matter the situation.”
The couple married on August 16, 1947 after meeting at school and they went on to have three children; Carol, Kennetha and Donna.
Scharton said that despite her father’s deteriorating health all he wanted was deteriorating for his beloved wife to get better.
She said: “He would tell the doctor, ‘I’m okay I just want her fixed.
Rest in Peace, Floyd and Violet. X
