NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced this morning that schools will remain open in the state from tomorrow, but is encouraging parents to keep kids at home where possible.

Speaking during a press conference this morning, Ms Berejiklian said that NSW schools will stay open for those in need, but said parents will be “encouraged to keep children at home” if they can.

“We appreciate these are uncertain times and we thank all our teachers and all of our frontline workers who are going over and above to keep the community functioning,” she told reporters on Monday.

Chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant says the decision for schools to remain open was a “practical one”.

This comes after the NSW Premier announced in a statement yesterday that she would have more to say on NSW schools remaining open.

NSW Health on Monday morning confirmed 136 new COVID-19 cases in the state, bringing the state’s tally to 669.
