Hearts of Bachelor fans across the nation broke in unison with this of Sophie Tieman and Brittany Hockley on Thursday evening when this years Bachelor, Nick ‘The Honey Badger’ Cummins dumped both of them in a never before seen ending to the show.
And while Soph and Brit have had their say on what went down during that heartbreaking final rose ceremony doing the media rounds across Australia on Friday, Nick has mostly avoided interviews, instead choosing to flee to Papua New Guinea to do the Kokoda Track.
That is until now. Nick Cummins has since broken his silence on the controversial Bachelor decision in a pretty uncomfortable interview with Lisa Wilkinson on The Sunday Project last night.
And let’s just say, Australia is not at all happy with his excuses as the Rugby player attempted to explain himself and offered up a pretty laughable apology to the finalists, offering to buy them a drink if he ever ran into them again.
In case you missed it, the interview began with Lisa grilling Nick on why he chose to go on The Bachelor if wasn’t actually ready for a long term commitment and why he made the decision to choose neither Brit or Soph.
“So what was the issue with the timelines?” asked Lisa.
“So timelines you can have, you can think you know what you want, and then someone comes into your life and your view of what you thought you wanted gets absolutely blown out the window,” said Cummins.
“Why would I go in and start something that has a high potential of three months down the track breaking her heart, you know? I’d rather make a very hard decision then at that point to save a big scar on the heart later,” he continued.
This was when he offered up his apology to the girls and promised to say hi and shout them a drink if he ever saw them again. As if that somehow makes up for their broken hearts right now…
“To all the girls, we went through a lot of stuff and I just want yous (sic) all to know that if I ever see you again, I’ll buy you a drink and say hello for old times sake.”
Lisa then went on to ask The Honey Badger if he thought Brooke, the girl who walked out just before the finale, was the one that got away. And despite what Sophie and Brittany told Kyle and Jackie O about that episode, Nick seemed to hint that he had very deep feelings for Brooke.
“The one that got away? Look yeah, I mean it was sort of something left unsaid. There was a lot of emotions that were swirling around, a lot of things left unsaid for many people,” continued Nick. “She got away on that regard. But I wouldn’t change it because I want what’s best for her and I want her to be happy.”
Despite leaving a number of the girls on the show upset with his final decision, Nick went on to say that he had no regrets about his time on the show.
“No – as far as I had control, I wouldn’t do anything differently,” he said. “From what was in my grass, I’m happy.”
But someone that really wasn’t happy, was the girl left standing in fourth place, Cass Wood. Hearts broke for her all over again during the interview with Lisa last night as Cass broke down in tears and revealed she felt embarrassed.
“I feel like a bit of a joke,” said Cass, as the tears began to flow. “Um, I don’t know…The whole thing’s just been really hard and to find out he isn’t with anyone as well.”
And well, after all of that you can imagine that Twitter was having a field day commenting on the interview with a number of people slamming Nick.
