Last night Big Brother Australia had us all watching and waiting to find out what their big announcement was.

While we didn’t get too many details about the show itself or when it will be coming back to our screens, the teaser that was shared did confirm that Sonia Kruger will be the host of the show.

Sonia joined the Kyle and Jackie O show this morning during O News to tell us all about her exciting new role but she told us that she really had no idea that she would be involved with BB when she made the move to Seven.

Last year it was announced that Sonia would be leaving Channel Nine for the Seven Network, with rumours circling that it was all so that she could host the rebooted reality TV show.

But Kruger told Kyle and Jackie O this morning that she didn’t find out about her hosting duties until the last minute!

“I know everyone was kind of speculating about it but it actually wasn’t part of why I was going to Seven,” Sonia revealed.

“I was going back to Seven to do AGT [Australia’s Got Talent] and to judge on that… But also to do lots of other stuff with Seven because they’ve got The Olympics happening this year and it’s going to be really the place to be.”

“Literally like last week they said to me you know, we want you to host Big Brother and you could have knocked me over with a feather because I know that there were a lot of people in the mix.”

Sonia of course has more experience than most as she previously hosted Big Brother while it was with Channel Nine before it was cancelled.

As for what we can expect to see from this revamped show, Sonia told us that she couldn’t really say all too much, but that it’s nothing like we’ve ever seen before.

“Before The Olympics we’ll be shooting Big Brother which I can’t wait to start because from what I’ve been told, and unfortunately I can’t tell you a lot, but it’s going to be completely new, contemporary,” Sonia revealed.

“Big Brother had it’s 20th anniversary last year, so people back then they were happy to watch people in the kitchen making a sandwich,” she continued. “But audiences today want a bit more and I think what we’re going to give them will be that plus some.”

Sonia couldn’t give us an exact start date for Big Brother, but she did say they start shooting very soon and that it will play on TV not long after that.

So soon is the only answer we can get on that one for now! But either way, we can’t WAIT!
