We all remember the Hamburglar from our childhoods – the guy with the face mask and hat who would steal burgers from Maccas, much to the annoyance of Ronald, Grimace and friends.
Well, he’s been given a new, live action makeover in 2015 – and it’s pretty weird.
McDonald’s posted a series of videos to Twitter, showing the Hamburglar flogging burgers and, um, taking calls from his wife.
McD’s is after me (apparently, so is my wife)! Tweet #RobbleRobble to keep them off my trail. https://t.co/JBVThrmHir

I’m dodging McD’s at every corner, keep tweeting #RobbleRobble, America! Time to grab more Sirloin burgers… https://t.co/61Lhd61ey6

Lisa McComb, director of media relations for McDonald’s, told The Verge in a statement, “As part of Hamburglar’s takeover of the McDonald’s Twitter account, the short video shows his double life: grabbing Sirloin Third Pound Burgers while keeping his identity under wraps via a call back to his family in the suburbs.”
WELL OF COURSE, when you put it that way it makes perfect sense!
But really, this is weird. Amazing, but weird.
The fugitive’s name is Hamburglar. We need a hard target search of every booth, counter, drive-thru ’til we find him! pic.twitter.com/1Od6bb6XTr

Hamburglar was a major character in the McDonaldland advertising campaigns throughout the 80s and 90s, but was phased out along with most of the other McDonaldland characters around a decade ago.
UNTIL NOW.
