Just months after filming wrapped for Married At First Sight, Nic has confirmed that his cancer has returned.
The groom had publicly revealed on the show that he suffered testicular cancer in his mid 20s.
He was forced to have a tumour removed from his stomach, which ultimately resulted in the news that he would not be able to have children without the assistance of IVF – a topic that he broached with on-screen wife Cyrell during the show.
The surgery was successful, thankfully, and he was cancer free for four years.
He was just 24 at the time.
But after finding a small lump on his testicle recently, doctors have confirmed that the cancer has returned.
“I just thought, ‘Surely not?'” Nic, told TV WEEK.
“I was having a shower at Christmas and found a little lump on my testicle.
“I didn’t want to take any risks – especially after what I’d been through already – so I booked in and was referred to a specialist.”
Nic had surgery to remove the testicle just days after the reunion episodes for MAFS were filmed.
And he has had two rounds of chemotherapy since to continue to combat the cancer and thankfully is now in remission.
He is now using his 15 minutes of fame for good, hoping that opening up about his journey and struggle may take the stigma out of the disease and prompt others to get checked.
“I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone,” he continued.
“It’s exhausting. You don’t want to get it once – let alone twice.
“But there’s always somebody worse off out there.
“If I can help and get one person to go and get checked and save their life, then job done.”
Nic said this time around there was the added stress of trying to navigate his relationship with the emotionally charged Cyrell.
“I know whatever I’m going through has nothing to do with our relationship and the show, but it’s disappointing,” he said
“I’ve got enough to deal with.
“After chemo, I was exhausted; my body was shutting down. It was just crap.
“And I’ve had to deal with her and try to keep her calm. But what do you do?”
We hope that Nic is recovering well and that this is the last of his cancer troubles in life.
