Are you one of the millions of people who are obsessed with The Handmaid’s Tale?

Whether a lover of the original book or the Hulu series, the premise of the dystopian society that exists in Gilead is absolutely terrifying, haunting and confronting.

But one thing’s for sure, we’ve got questions by the bucket loads.

And it seems the author of the 1985 novel has come to our rescue.

Margaret Atwood has announced on Twitter that she is writing a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, titled The Testament.

The book will be set 15 years after the original, and aims to answer everyone’s questions and further delve into the dystopian world.

It is said to be based on Offred, who escapes from Gilead. Colour us intrigued.

“Everything you’ve ever asked me about Gilead and its inner workings is the inspiration for this book,” Atwood said.

“Well, almost everything! The other inspiration is the world we’ve been living in.”

Sadly we have to wait until September 2019 to bury our noses in the new novel.

The basic premise of The Handmaid’s Tale looks into a world where fertile women are stripped of many of their basic human rights, instead forced to bear children for the infertile elite.
