A single mum with six-year-old twins, a booming acting career and an album on the way, Candice Alley has come a long way in the past eight years.
And while she likes to keep her private life private, the singer opened up in a candid interview with Kidspot.
Moving on after a very public and very messy breakup with Grant Hackett was never going to be easy, but Alley has done it with her head held high.
With time and distance on her side, the now 34-year-old can look back with some clarity on the damaging relationship that she was in and why she needed to walk away for the sake of her children.

“I think staying in an unhealthy relationship around your children is counterproductive for the children. My children are very happy because of some of the decisions I’ve made,” she told Kidspot.
“Being a mum is the most important job in the world because you’re raising people and trying to shape them. All you can do is the best you can.”
The separation happened when the twins Charlize and Jaggar were only two years old, which meant they were at least not subject to the details of the situation.
“Luckily with my children, they didn’t have any idea of what was going on,” she said.

“I didn’t have to do any explaining. It was easier for me.”
But now she is looking to the future.
The twins, now six, are both at different high schools – Candice believes keeping their personalities and identities separate and given them space to grow is very important.
As for her own life, she is enjoying working and being a mum.
“I’m happily single. I love being a mum to my children,” she continued.
“As a single mum it is hard, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Everything is on my terms and we have a really happy household.

“I’m in a great place. I’m writing an album, I have two children, and I feel like I’ve been there done that. I feel like I had a bad twenties and then when I turned 30, everything just got better and better.
“I have my blinkers on when it comes to dating. I’m definitely not looking.”
