Today Brooklyn took on the role of quiz master and put Kyle and Jackie O to the test with the world’s shortest IQ test – and let’s just say it didn’t end up making us look too great…

The test only consists of three brain teasers that seem rather simple at first, but about 80% of people get them wrong!

It’s known as the Cognitive Reflection Test and comes from a paper written in 2005 by a MIT professor, Shane Frederick.

The reason that the brain teasers are so hard is because each has an obvious answer that isn’t actually correct and most people will answer without stopping to properly think about the problem.

“The three items on the CRT are ‘easy’ in the sense that their solution is easily understood when explained, yet reaching the correct answer often requires the suppression of an erroneous answer that springs ‘impulsively’ to mind,” wrote Professor Frederick.

3428 people took the test and only 17% answered all three questions right – so of course we wanted to see how Kyle and Jackie would go with it.

Want to play along too? Here are the three questions:

1. A bat and a ball cost $1.10 in total. The bat costs $1 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?
2. If it takes five machines five minutes to make five widgets, how long would it take 100 machines to make 100 widgets?
3. In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of the lake?

Now each of these questions has an obvious answer that’s actually wrong and a correct answer. And let’s just say, Kyle and Jackie won’t be getting an A on their test… Check out their answers in the video above.
