Kyle and Jackie O, along with many people no doubt, were shocked to hear that radio legend Alan Jones would be hanging up the microphone for good after 35-years on air.

This morning, Alan announced that he would be retiring from his role as 2GB breakfast host at the end of May following advice from his doctors.

Jackie told Kyle about the announcement during her O News segment this morning, and Kyle couldn’t believe that his longtime rival would be leaving the airwaves.

“And some breaking news, Alan Jones has retired from radio,” Jackie said.

“What?! Wow!” Kyle exclaimed. “Oh what a shame! Well that’s big change anyway.”

Speaking on air this morning, Alan said “Well, the experts are telling me in no uncertain terms, and not for the first time I might add, ‘continuing with the present workload is seriously detrimental to your health’.

“I have listened to the experts and I am taking this opportunity to indicate to my radio family that I will be retiring from radio at the end of this month.”

To pay tribute to Alan Jones, who often creeps his way into our show with some funny audio, Kyle and Jackie decided to replay some of their favourite Alan Jones moments, including that infamous dust rant and his pronunciation of “ping-gas”.

Oh and of course what would an Alan Jones tribute be without Kyle’s infamous Alan Jones impersonation!

With all the fun that we have on our show based on moments from Alan’s show, he really will be missed around here!

“Oh that’s very sad though,” Jackie added. “I’m sure that was not a decision he took lightly. He loves his job and he wouldn’t have wanted to do that but obviously realised he had to.”

“Remember when he wouldn’t yield?” Kyle reminisced. “Well he’s yielded now. A self-yield.

“All those good old sayings, they’ll never be heard again.”

You’ll certainly be missed Alan!

It’s since been announced that Ben Fordham will replace Jones in the breakfast slot, and so of course Kyle had a message for him too.

“Good luck Ben Fordham. Friend of mine, but now mortal enemy to the death,” Kyle said. True Kyle style!
