Last night on Married At First Sight we saw one of the couples that we originally thought would last the distance, Lauren and Matthew, choose to leave the show.

While the pair originally connected fairly instantly and overcame Matt’s intimacy issues during their honeymoon, things took a turn during an episode last week when it was revealed that Lauren’s sexual appetite may be too much for former virgin Matt to handle.

Viewers at home were shocked to hear Lauren’s erotic sexual admissions last week after she revealed that she was interested in things like threesomes, swinging and domination. This also came after she told Matt that she used to be a lesbian.

But according to someone close to Lauren, this whole scene that we at home thought ended Lauren and Matt’s relationship, was actually something that was allegedly manipulated by show producers.

Josie, Lauren’s friend, called up the Kyle and Jackie O Show this morning during first calls to defend her friend Lauren, claiming that Channel Nine won’t let her speak with the media at all.

“She just feels like that whole thing was about him,” Josie said in reference to how heavily Nine played on the fact that Matt was a virgin.

“And not being able to do any media, it’s all just what he has to say about it all. So it’s a bit crap,” she continued. “She’s definitely not had any media arranged and he’s had a lot.”

It turns out that this might be because what Lauren might say would contradict their story line that she has crazy, erotic, sexual desires that scared Matt off.

Josie claimed that Lauren’s conversation with Matt about threesomes and swinging didn’t go down the way that we saw on TV.

“When they aired all the stuff about the threesomes and the swinging I think it was a bit misconstrued and she was a bit upset then,” Josie said.

“Why was it misconstrued?” asked Jackie.

“I think she was talking about things generally and she says it was like a really long conversation, maybe even over half an hour, where she was just talking about she wanted him to be more intimate with her, and talked about different friends, different experiences.

“I think the whole point was, I’m only asking for a little bit of affection from you, how would you feel if I wanted to do these other things. Like it’s not the biggest ask.

“And I think she’s been portrayed to be a bit of a nympho,” Josie concluded.

“Oh my god, because she did say, ‘How would you feel if I said I was into threesomes and stuff’ so that is misconstrued,” said Jackie.

Josie continued to say that her friend Lauren has never participated in this type of sexual behaviour before.

“She has literally never engaged in swinging,” Josie claimed.

Josie appeared to claim that a comment made by Lauren about these types of sexual things were taken completely out of context to make it appear like she wanted to do them.

If this is the case, and it was all a bit of clever editing from producers, are we really all that surprised?

Married At First Sight continues tonight at 7:30pm on Channel Nine.
