Kate Spade’s husband has taken to his Instagram account to post a touching tribute to his late wife less than two months after her tragic passing.
Andy Spade shared a picture of a decorated Christmas tree on Monday evening, local time, paired with a caption that explained how he and his 13-year-old daughter Bea honoured the late designer.
“She was born Christmas Eve, 1962. She loved the Midwest, the desert, and the city,” wrote Andy in the post. “I was lucky enough to have dear friends let my daughter…stay at their home through a difficult time.
“This tree was standing alone beside the house so we ordered those multicoloured old fashioned lights from Amazon or Target and another dear personal friend gave me a really long extension cord and Be a and I cut a star out of the cardboard box the lights come on and wrapped it in Reynolds wrap like we do every Christmas.”
On June 5 2018 Kate was found dead of an apparent suicide in her apartment. She was 55-years-old and left behind her young daughter and husband.
At the time, her husband Andy spoke out in a statement to E! News saying that Kate had suffered for a long time with issues of mental health but had been seeking help. The family was left in “complete shock” by the tragedy.
Mr Spade also admitted that he and Kate hadn’t lived together for around 10 months but they were still amicable and spoke to each other everyday. He described their relationship as “best friends trying to work through our problems”.
“Kate was the most beautiful woman in the world,” he said in the statement. “She was the kindest person I’ve ever known and my best friend for 35 years. My daughter and I are devastated by her loss and can’t even begin to fathom life without her. We are deeply heartbroken and miss her already.”
Kate was laid to rest on the June 21 in her hometown of Kansas City and sadly her father, Earl F. Brosnahan Jr. passed away the night before her funeral.
