When you think of Karl Stefanovic no doubt you have a favourite moment that comes to mind from his time on The Today Show.
Having co-hosted the program for YEARS it’s safe to say that he had his fair share of memorable moments that we still find hilarious to this day.
Whether it be the time he had a few too many drinks after the logies, or the time he couldn’t control his laughter while interviewing an angry cat, Karl truly is one of a kind in the TV world.
And so it not surprising that when we took listener questions with Karl on the Kyle and Jackie O show today that one of the questions was centred around one of these hilarious moments – the time Karl tried to tell a joke to the Dalai Lama.
In case you need a refresher, Karl tried out one of his dad jokes on the religious figure.
“So the Dalai Lama walks into a pizza shop and says, can you make me one with everything,” Karl said, trying to keep a straight face.
But somewhere along the line it got lost in translation and the Dalai Lama had ZERO idea what Karl was on about! Not funny for the Dalai Lama, but VERY funny for us.
Anyway, one of our listeners called up today and wanted to know what happened after the cameras stopped rolling.
“When the cameras stopped rolling, was he into you? What happened?” our listener asked.
“No he found it quite funny at the end, it was the make me one with everything gag, and it took about 40 minutes to explain to him what it actually meant,” Karl told us.
And apparently once he found out that Karl actually was funny, he’s tried to keep in contact with him!
“And ever since, whenever he’s in Australia touring he will ring and see if I’m around to go and interview him because he enjoyed the process so much and had millions of hits online,” Karl told us.
He went on to describe the rest of his interaction with the Dalai Lama, telling us that things just went from bad to well, very weird.
“I said, ‘How do you deal with this travel and all that sort of stuff and he goes, ‘Oh It’s very, very difficult and I always think plane is going to crash’,” Karl revealed.
“And I’m like, ‘WHAT?! The Dalai Lama’s worried about the plane crashing?’ and he goes, ‘Yeah especially first class. Not what it used to be’.”
Well that’s certainly not something you want to hear from someone who’s not supposed to be all too worried about anything!
