Karl Stefanovic joined Kyle and Jackie O in studio this morning to chat about his upcoming show on Channel Nine, This Time Next Year, which kicks off on Monday August 12.

And while we were incredibly intrigued by the various people who will be joining him on the show in order to reach their personal goals, we of course had to speak about Karl’s previous TV show and the drama that surrounded it.

At the end of last year, Aussie viewers were shocked to find out that Karl had been axed from co-host of Channel Nine’s breakfast show, The Today Show, following a long stint of bad press.

Karl’s brother Peter Stefanovic and his sister-in-law Sylvia Jeffreys were also let go from the show around the same time.

The Today Show then returned to screens in January this year with a completely rebooted panel and new look.

But it wasn’t exactly accepted by viewers all too well. Ever since the change was made, people have been calling for Nine to bring Karl back and there have been multiple reports that this could happen.

So to put the rumours to rest once and for all, Kyle and Jackie decided to ask Karl this morning whether there is any chance of him heading back to Today.

“So is there any chance that you are going back to the today show?” Jackie asked this morning.

“They all say you are,” Kyle added.

Unfortunately for fans of Karl, he told us that a Today show return isn’t on the cards at all.

“Yeah there’s no chance,” Karl revealed. “Even if I’d had high level talks I’d tell you but I haven’t.”

“Is that because you don’t want to?” Jackie asked.

“No I’ve just been busy doing other things… No one has asked me to go back to the Today Show,” Karl continued.

“I’ve been enjoying myself. I’ve been doing a bit of 60 Minutes and This Time Next Year and for me it’s a great combination and I’ve been able to rest a bit, which has been good.”

Karl also told us that he’s definitely been enjoying the sleep ins after waking up at the crack of dawn for over a decade!

So unfortunately there’s no plans to bring Karl back yet! We guess we can still hope for a possibility in the future though..?
