It was rumoured that Aussie singer Jessica Mauboy and her longterm boyfriend Themeli Magripilis were engaged during a recent trip to Greece and just last week Jess confirmed the happy news.
“The love of my life proposed to me in his family’s home town of Kalymnos, Greece on the beach at sunset,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a happy snap of that pair.
“We are so happy. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. Thank you for all the love. BIG LOVE JM & Themeli.”
Ever since then we’ve wanted to know EVERY single detail about the moment that was no doubt full of romance and happy tears!
Jess joined Kyle and Jackie O in studio this morning when she told us exactly how it went down, revealing all of the sweet little details involved.
She told us that Themeli had actually been planning the proposal for a year before actually dropping down on one knee and he enlisted the help of some of her closest friends and family to help make it perfect.
He even asked her father’s permission for her hand in marriage! How cute is that!
“I told them [her parents] the news, mum was balling her eyes out,” Jess told us. “Dad was like, ‘I knew it was coming because he asked for your hand’. This was like a year of planning. I don’t know how he did it without me knowing but he did.”
As for the actual proposal, Jess explained that they were staying in one of the Greek Islands called Kalymnos when Themeli dropped to his knee on one of the picturesque beaches.
“It was on one of the beaches, it was like a pebble beach a really beautiful place,” Jess told us. “We’d just come from the cafe up on the hill and walked all the way down. It was amazing honestly.”
“For like a minute I wasn’t saying anything, honestly I was pretty shocked in my bikini, I’m like, ‘Is this how it’s meant to happen?’,” Jess continued. “I’m like, ‘I’m not prepared’. But I don’t think you’re ever prepared.”
“But the moment, the after affect was pretty insane. I’ve been with this fella for ages and we just felt like we were a married couple in the beginning anyway.”
As for the diamond ring, Jess said that her now fiance enlisted one of her good friends to help design it.
“It’s quite like antique, that kind of old antique style to it,” Jess explained. “I didn’t get to pick this. But he’s very smart.
“It’s designed by Mondial, a really good friend of mine who I didn’t know was in on it too but he pretty much met up with her and they went through this kind of huge booklet.
“He knew exactly, I love butterflies and underneath the diamond, there’s two butterflies holding the diamond. It’s a mother earth stone from this country.”
What a beautiful engagement story! We’re so happy for these too!
