From the moment Gordon Wolder and Kari Nolte met, they knew they were meant to be together for the rest of their lives. But like all young coupled – they didn’t know how long that would be.

Very quickly after getting together they knew they wanted to make it official and began planning their wedding for just over a year later.

Tragically soon after, doctors told Gordon that he had leiomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. The same disease that he had fought so bravely as a teenager.

The agressive cancer had grown back and spread via the bloodstream. The disease is so rare, it only affects about 4 in every 1 million people.

Gordon began to deteriorate very quickly after that, but despite it all, he always believed he would beat the cancer for a second time and marry the love of his life.

Sadly, by April things weren’t looking good for Gordon as he took a turn for the worst and Kari, who had stood by him the whole time said that they looked into each other’s eyes and knew they wanted to get married.

They gathered all of their loved ones around Gordon’s hospital bed on April 14th.

During the ceremony, Kari and Gordon laid together in bed, his last words being “I do.” Two minutes after his vows, he was gone. “They kissed”, says his dad, “and after they kissed Gordon tried to stay. He tried to stay with us, he really did. And we told him, ‘You’re married now, son. And it’s OK’.”
