Hugh Jackman, his wife Deborra-Lee Furness and their two children have rushed to be by her mother’s side in Melbourne after reports that she has been unwell.
Jackman and his family had been in Sydney earlier this week, while he is part way through shooting the next Wolverine movie, before flying south to be by her side.
Furness’s mother, Fay Duncan has allegedly been ill for an extended period of time.
“It’s a very sensitive time,” a family friend told The Daily Telegraph.
“It’s well documented Deborra’s mother hasn’t been well for a while and the family want to be there for her.”
Fay Duncan, who relies on a wheelchair to get around, has been a huge advocate in Australia for bone marrow donorship and research.
Setting up the Bone Marrow Donor Institute in 1989, Duncan is also responsible for establishing the Red Ball which helps raise funds for the Fight Cancer Foundation.
Her passion for the cause began when a close friend’s daughter was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
The first indication that Duncan’s health was on the decline was in September last year, when she failed to attend the Red Ball that she had organised.
Thankfully Jackman and Furness stepped in in her place and the event raised over $100k for the charity.
