SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT PROCEED IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE SERIES!
We expected bloodshed. We expected our favourite characters to die. We expected Westeros to change for good. But, we didn’t expect it to unfold this way.
Just 30 minutes into the final episode of Game of Thrones, a major character was killed. And, it’s not who you expect, nor is the killer.
It’s quite possibly one of the most dramatic moments in the show’s series, and follows the merciless slaughter of the innocent people of King’s Landing.
While fans were left scratching their heads at Jon Snow’s ignorance of Daenerys Targaryen’s tyranny, our views on him completely changed during his encounter with his “one and only queen”.
While passionately kissing, Jon stabs the Mother of Dragons in the chest. Yes, you read that right – Jon Snow kills Daenerys Targaryen.
After ordering the execution of Tyrion Lannister for treason, Jon confronts Daenerys as she marvels at the Iron Throne – realising that her dream of ruling the Seven Kingdoms has finally become a reality.
“Children, little children, burned!” Jon screams.
“I tried to make peace with Cersei, she used their innocence as a weapon against me. She thought it’d cripple me,” Dany responds, before attempting to inspire Jon about the good world they’d build together.
“It’s not easy to see something that’s never been before. A good world. I know what is good,” she says.
“What about everyone else? All the other people who think they know what’s good?” Jon asks.
“They don’t get to choose,” she replies.
“We do it together. We break the wheel, together. Be with me. Build the new world with me. This is our reason. It has been from the beginning since you were a little boy with a bastards name and I was a little girl who couldn’t count to 20,” she continues.
“You are my queen, now and always,” Jon replies, before passionately kissing his Khaleesi.
It was in that moment that viewers were given the shock of their life. Jon stabs Daenerys in the chest, crying over her dead body.
Her dragon Drogon appears, shooting fire, and mourning the death of its mother. He then continues to shoot fire in true dragon style, ultimately melting the Iron Throne into oblivious. Drogon then flies away with Daenerys’ body in a moment that had fans across the world in tears.
“…and so ends your watch Daenerys Targaryen. Stabbed in the heart meanwhile Cersei dies with her lover in her bossom,” one viewer tweeted.

Another added: “When jon stabbed dany, i really wanted to feel it I wanted to see myself cry but I just couldn’t. Why would I? The person on my screen isn’t Daenerys, but a character that was butchered for the sake of the plot; for the sake of subverting expectations.”

“She died at 23 without ever finding a home. She watched the people she loved the most die in front of her. She watched her children fall from the sky. She never even got to sit on the throne before she was stabbed in the heart by the men she trusted,” another fan wrote.

This scene will undoubtedly go down in television history. We’re still shocked. Wait, are we dreaming?
