A thick blanket of fog has settled on Sydney this morning causing low visibility for those travelling in and around the city.
As a result numerous flights have been delayed and some even cancelled. At this point 15 morning flights out of Sydney have been cancelled and five are delayed as the airport attempts to reduce the number of flights taking off and landing.

Some international flights have also been diverted to surrounding cities including Brisbane and Melbourne.
Virgin Australia have confirmed that at least eight of their flights will be affected by the fog but this number could rise if the visibility doesn’t improve.
Anyone who is catching a flight today to or from Sydney is being urged to check the flight status website before leaving for the airport.
Low visibility procedures in place @SydneyAirport this morning due to fog, but we are still seeing arrivals and departures and no diversions reported. For cancellations please check with your airline. Happy and safe travels!

The news is much the same for those travelling by ferry with all Harbour ferries cancelled this morning until further notice. A cruise ship is currently stuck in the middle of Sydney harbour unable to move due to the heavy fog.

But it’s not all bad news, the fog is a result of the warmer weather that we are expecting across Sydney today. It’s set to be a beautifully sunny day with a top of 23 degrees, which is seven degrees above the average for this time of year.
