A nine spokesman has confirmed rumours that Peter Stefanovic is leaving Channel 9 to “explore new opportunities”.
The younger brother of Karl Stefanovic is officially leaving the nine network after 15 years.
“Nine and reporter Peter Stefanovic have mutually decided to part ways after 15 years,” a Nine spokesperson told news.com.au.
“Peter has decided to explore new opportunities and is looking forward to spending weekends with his wife.
“He has been a respected member of the Nine News team and Weekend Today, and we wish him all the best for the future.”
In a statement, Stefanovic said he had “an amazing time at Nine being a foreign correspondent, news reporter and covering some amazing stories for 60 Minutes.”
However, there was strangely no mention of his stint on Weekend Today after rumours began circulating around his potential sacking from the breakfast television program.
“I’ll miss my friends at Nine very much, it has been a huge privilege to work alongside so many great people,” he added.
Nine allegedly noted that Peter didn’t have the same on-air charism as his older brother, with sources reporting that Channel 9 Adelaide newsreader Brenton Ragless would replace him on Weekend Today from next year.
It has also been reported that Karl is facing increasing speculation around how long he will last as TODAY host.
