There’s a new voice in the vaccination debate and it’s none other than our Sesame Street favourite – Elmo.
As part of the US government’s vaccination campaign, the 30 second ad targets kids, explaining why vaccinations are important – in a way only Sesame Street can.
With World Immunisation Week kicking off this Friday, the ad has certainly come at an opportune time.
In Australia, the number of conscientious objectors has increased steadily in recent years.
According to news.com.au, since 2006 the number of parents objecting to vaccinations based on personal, philosophical, religious or medical reasons has increased from 18,899 for children under 7 years to 39,523 last year.
The significant increase has seen Prime Minister Tony Abbot promise a “no jab, no play, no pay” policy to close the loop hole which allowed parents to object based on “personal, philosophical, religious or medical” reasons.
Under the reform, parents who receive benefits will only be able to object based on religious or medical grounds.
