Demi Lovato has opened up for the first time publicly since overdosing and being admitted to hospital on almost two weeks ago.
The ‘Sober’ singer made an emotional post to her Instagram account this morning, speaking candidly about her struggle with addiction and saying that it is something she has not overcome yet.
“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears of fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,” wrote Demi.
She continued the post by thanking God, her fans, family and the staff at the hospital who all helped her get through this terrifying part of her life with their love and support.
“To my fans, I am forever grateful for all your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time,” she continued.
“I want to thank my family, my team, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai who have been by my side this entire time. Without them I wouldn’t be here writing this letter to all of you.”
Demi concluded the post by saying that she is going to take this time to work on her recovery and assured her fans that she will never give up.
“I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery,” the post said. “I will keep fighting. Demi.”
Other celebrities including Hailey Baldwin and Noah Cyrus have since commented on the emotional post sending their love to Demi and praising her for her strength.
This comes after the singer was rushed to hospital after she was found unconscious at her Hollywood Hills home after a suspected drug overdose on July 25.
Demi has openly discussed her issues with addiction and substance abuse, including drugs and alcohol and until recently she had claimed to be sober for six years.
Earlier in 2018 she released a song titled ‘Sober’ in which she apologised to her fans and family for relapsing.
