Demi Lovato has opened up about her track “Father” discussing her confliction with her Father’s passing. She has often spoken about his struggle with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and how it inspired her to help others who suffer from mental illness. On her Youtube channel, she discusses the inspiration behind all of the tracks on her new album Confident.

“I was very conflicted when he passed, because he was abusive … he was mean,” she said. “But he wanted to be a good person, and he wanted to have his family. And when my mom married my stepdad, he still had this huge heart where he’d say, ‘I’m so glad he’s taking care of you and doing the job I wish I could do.'”
