It all started when Carrie Bickmore graciously accepted her TV Week Gold Logie Award in 2015.

Instead of talking up her accomplishments or reeling off a list of people that helped get her to where she is today, Carrie took the opportunity to insight real change.

Carrie lost her husband to brain cancer six years ago but instead of feeling helpless, The Project host decided she could use her celebrity to make a difference.

It was during that acceptance speech that Carrie introduced us to Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer – a large scale fundraiser that aims to raise funds for brain cancer research while also increasing awareness of the deadly disease.

And on The Project last night, Carrie got to make the next exciting announcement.

Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer has surpassed their initial fundraising target of $1 million.

Of course the topic brought up a lot of emotion for Carrie but she carried through with dignity and grace.

“I don’t know any of you, but I feel like I know you all,” she said.

“[My late husband, Greg Lange] is the reason that I did this all, and I want to say to anybody suffering from brain cancer right now we will use this money and we will use it to try and make your future brighter.”

Fellow Project panellists Peter Helliar and Waleed Aly were also quick to step in and pay tribute to the hard work and dedication of Carrie over the past 12 months.

Instead of outsourcing and delegating duties, Carrie made sure that she was involved at all levels in this personal project, from logistics to the manufacturing of beanies and fundraising.

We were delighted to hear that Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer will continue on well into the future with bigger and brighter plans than ever before!
