Travis Barker’s new memoir, Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums reveals information about the tragic 2008 plane crash that almost took his life, and took the lives of two pilots, and two of his friends.

Barker was left with severe burns over 60 per cent of his body, and according to a report on, he spent more than 11 weeks in hospitals and burn centres seeking treatment. In that time he underwent 27 surgeries and skin grafts.

While promoting the book, Barker appeared on Good Morning America and opened up about the difficult time in his life after the accident. He revealed that the excruciating pain from his burns felt ‘like hell’, and he was ready to take his own life.

“I would call friends of mine and say, ‘Yo, I’ll deposit $1 million into whoever’s bank account (if you help me end my life …),” he said.

“They had to take my phone out of my room (to stop me calling).”

The rocker also revealed that he had nightmares about planes crashing before boarding the plane, and even had a bad feeling about the journey as he stepped onto the tarmac before boarding. It is also well documented, and now substantiated by Barker, that his young daughter Alabama also said to him, “the roof’s gonna come off, daddy”, before he left for his trip.

Barker, who grew up with a fear of flying, hasn’t stepped foot on a plane since the accident, but according to, hasn’t ruled out air travel in the future. “I tell my children when you’re ready to fly, I’m ready to fly.”
