Beyoncé will be gracing the September cover of Vogue but she’s not one to take a back seat.

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has given Beyoncé total control over the cover of the upcoming September issue.

Anna Wintour has always had entire control of the content, including selecting all of the outfits worn. Cover subjects are usually given little to no say in their photos and are sent the cover in the week ahead of publication.

She has been given control of the cover, the photos of her inside the magazine and all of the captions, which she has written herself and are in long-form.

Beyoncé has reportedly hired the first black photographer, Tyler Mitchell, 23, to ever shoot a Vogue cover in the 126 years that it’s been in print.

“I depict black people and people of color in a really real and pure way,” Mitchell, who has previously shot for Marc Jacobs and Givenchy, “There is an honest gaze to my photos.”

It has been said that this is, “The most controversial fashion news since Jacqueline Follet almost became editor of Runway.”
