Avril Lavigne has performed for the first time since opening up about her life-changing battle with Lyme disease.

Taking to the stage for the Special Olympics world Games in LA, the singer performed her new single Fly.

Taking to Instagram after the heart-felt performance, the 30-year-old told fans how special the performance was to her.

“It has been a difficult year fighting though Lyme Disease for me and I am so happy to have made it on stage tonight for the first performance in a year,” she wrote.

“I wrote this song to encourage people who are facing challenges, to encourage strength and to empower.”
