There’s one thing that all MasterChef fans are no doubt curious to see when the show returns in a few weeks time, and that’s what the new set of judges are like.

Last year it was announced that longtime judges on the cooking competition, Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan would not be returning to the series.

Instead, it was announced that they would be replaced by three completely new judges, Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen.

So how will the new judges compare to the OGs?

Andy Allen, former winner of MasterChef turned judge, joined the Kyle and Jackie O Show this morning when he told us about what it was like to fill the big shoes left behind by Matt, George and Gary.

He told us that it’s actually been a great experience because the producers told them not to try and act like the trio would and to just be themselves.

“Have you decided whether you’re going to be the judge that sweats all the time whilst eating or the one that wears the cravat and the fancy jacket?” Kyle joked this morning. “Or are you going to run your own ideas here?”

“The producers have been amazing in that they’re just letting Jock, Melissa and myself just be ourselves,” Andy revealed.

“They didn’t want us to step into Matt, George or Gary’s role, they were just, we chose you because we want you to be you.”

Andy said that this has worked so far with the contestants on the show and hopefully it will work with the viewers and fans of the show too.

“It seems to work, the contestants have been amazing. They love our feedback and it’s just been a really good energy on the show,” Andy said. “I’m excited for you guys to see it.”

As for what it was like when Andy got the call up to be one of the new MasterChef judges, he told us that he was completely shocked by the offer but very honoured.

“I was surprised, first things first, and then super honoured,” he told us.

“I mean MasterChef is a beast. It’s the best cooking show out there and to be asked after I’ve won the show to come back and be a judge it’s a huge hat tip, and even more so when I got onto the show and started filming. It just feels so good.”

MasterChef Back To Win starts Monday April 13 at 7:30PM on Channel 10!
